Raspberry Pi Interface with Galil Controllers

An HMI or Human Machine Interface is needed in many motion control applications. These devices are used to allow a user to instruct a machine on what to do without the need of a full PC. Many times HMIs are touch enabled allowing them to be placed on the production floor and used by technicians right by the machine. There are many sources for HMIs and many can cost thousands of dollars. With the arrival of the Raspberry Pi Foundation and its Raspberry Pi models, a small but powerful option arrived. Adding to this, the official Raspberry Pi 7” display, and the Galil application program interface, this powerful trio form the foundation for an inexpensive but fully capable HMI that can be customized for any motion control application.
New EtherCAT I/O Controller from Galil
Galil Motion Control introduces the RIO-574×0, its first EtherCAT Slave I/O Controller. This controller is packed with digital and analog I/O and can greatly expand the I/O capability of an EtherCAT application. The RIO-574×0 is specifically designed to interface seamlessly with Galil’s EtherCAT Master Motion Controller, the DMC-500×0, but it can also be used with any generic EtherCAT Master. Priced around 1/3rd of the competition, the RIO-574×0 provides a compact, cost-effective I/O controller perfect for any EtherCAT application. Read more
New miniature 10mm Motor Doubles Output Torque
FAULHABER has launched a new generation of metal brush commutated motors, the 1024…SR series with a diameter of 10mm. In combination with a gearhead, its output torque can achieve 300 mNm, twice that of similar products on the market. Thanks to a superior torque/speed ratio (flat slope) the motor can handle varying loads at reduced speed variations, thus granting smooth control. This performance is achieved with very low noise and vibration levels. A wide range of matching speed and motion controllers, encoders, and gearheads allow for optimal adaption in high-demand applications like portable devices or optical equipment. Read more

The decades-old method of using light barriers and light curtains to safeguard elevator doors is about to come to an end – thanks to the TOFgard sensor from Swiss sensor solution specialist, CEDES. This compact and versatile Time Of Flight camera sensor offers the safeguarding function but extended across both the cabin and landing door closing edges. In other words, it offers genuine full door area protection for passengers, freight and the door itself. iDiscovery: Elevator safety systems in one device!
The iDiscovery is a powerful SIL3 and EN 81compliant position supervisor unit. In conjunction with CEDES’ APS (Absolute Positioning System) it takes over safety-relevant elevator functions and devices of an elevator. These include detection of unintended car movement, pre-opening of doors, re-leveling with open doors, overspeed detection, retardation control and limit switches. PiezoMotor launches controller based on technology from Galil Motion Control
Swedish motor manufacturer PiezoMotor just announced a complete controller/driver for use with their piezo electric motors in the Piezo LEGS® series. The unit, which has been named DMC-30019, is built on the DMC-3x01x Pocket Motion Controller Series, which is latest generation single-axis motion controller from Galil Motion Control. Read more
Introducing Galil’s New C Programming Library
gclib is a C-compatible application programming interface (API) for communicating with Galil motion controllers and PLCs.
This February Galil introduced a new C application program interface (API) library. This library gives programmers access to powerful routines to interact with Galil motion controllers in a wide variety of application development environments. The Galil C Library, or “gclib”, replaces the C++ GalilTools Communication Library, or GCL, released in 2007 and is recommended for all new software development.

Success in ‘Elektronik 2015’ trade show
A big thanks to everyone who attended and made our participation at easyFairs Electronik last week such a success! We are proud to have had the opportunity of presenting new technology for battery charging from Seiko Instruments and transparent displays from Lumineq. We also held a popular seminar on Tuesday covering transparent display technology in general. Thank you, Joe Pimenoff from Lumineq.
